KARACHI:

Charged activists of the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) in Karachi staged a protest in favour of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

They demanded the withdrawal of all cases registered against him on Thursday.

The protestors rallied with placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of Musharraf. They also strongly condemned ‘one-sided state discriminations’ against their leader.

Leaders from APML’s Karachi division also demanded the immediate removal of Musharraf name from Exit Control List (ECL).

“The tenure of Musharraf was a golden era and he put the country on the path of progress and prosperity,” they said.

“Musharraf is the most important pillar of the state and the government is hatching a conspiracy against him, we are very displeased with the way Musharraf has been treated since returning from his self-imposed exile,” they said.

@AnisAqeel: Perhaps this is your myopic view of the situation. Far worse has been done to Pakistan by the countless other civilian and military leaders who happened to be the sons and daughters of the soil and I don't see you raving about their policies.

Musharraf did the best possible given the circumstances. This militancy genie was going to blow up sooner or later despite the ostrich like denials by many here including you who rather simplistically lay the blame solely on Musharraf for it.

I would also say that the Pakistani military enjoys the same admiration, love and respect that it always has. This is clear in the minds of the vast majority of Pakistanis.

Lastly, the baseless targeted kangaroo court cases should be dropped against Musharraf and he should be allowed to live as a free citizen of Pakistan. If all the treasonous acts and the abettors of these treasonous acts from 1956 onwards are not being tried, then this a mockery of justice. Don't scapegoat Musharraf just because you cannot tolerate his ethnic background. This is the only reason he is subjected to the harshest critique from the born again democrats from Punjab. In essence this is nothing but washing off our own sins of the past by sacrificing a minority General of the Army on the alter of this so called democracy monkey.

ET, please post my message as I only see comments denigrating Musharraf. Lets be fair please! Thank you.
