Clearing backlog: NAB decides 200 high-profile cases out of pending 300

NAB chairperson directs officers of the bureau to work diligently.

LAHORE:

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is rapidly clearing a backlog of more than 300 cases which have been pending for an extended period of time, sources familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune. NAB officials claimed that out of 300 pending high-profile cases, around 200 have been cleared, most of which involved politicians and bureaucrats with some framed on the desires of political opponents.

Sources in the apex anti-graft agency said NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman directed officers of the bureau to work diligently to clear all pending cases. In this regard, the chairman constituted a committee under the supervision of its Deputy Chairman Saeed Ahmad Sargana. Officials familiar with the matter said that the committee has so far met seven times and cleared around 200 cases, with some converted into inquiries and others into investigations.
