Joy of harvest: Jashn-e-Hazara to commence from Thursday

HARIPUR: The annual festival of Jashn-e-Hazara is scheduled to kick off at Curtis Ground, Haripur from Thursday, official sources said on Tuesday.

The festival is meant to provide entertainment to local farmers and artisans with the onset of the wheat harvesting season. Every year, people from across Hazara and other parts of country participate in the event and exhibit their culture, attracting scores of people to the four-day event.

The festival’s chief organiser, Engineer Amjad Sheikh said the opening ceremony of the event will be inaugurated by Khyber-Pakhtunkwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan. The event will conclude on April 27 when Chief Minister Pervez Khattak will distribute awards among participants for outstanding performances.

Activities include horse dancing, bull racing, tent pegging, badminton, tug-of-war and weight lifting among others. The event will also host folk dance and singing, Mehfil-e-Mushaira, fireworks and an exhibition of industrial and agricultural products along with a meena bazaar for women and joyrides for children.

The administration will ensure tight security in and around the venue of the programmes, added the chief organiser.
