The CPLC and AVCC conducted a joint raid at the kidnappers' hideout located in Steel Town, in which the officials concerned managed to recover the abducted UN employees safely, however, they failed to arrest any of the alleged kidnappers.
“The two kidnappers were present there when we conducted a raid but both of them managed to escape under the cover of firing,” says CPLC deputy chief Najeeb Dana Wala said while talking to The Express Tribune. “To recover the abductees safely was our priority and thanks to God, we did it.”
The pair had gone missing on Thursday evening when it is believed they were returning from a recreation trip to an amusement resort.
"Unicef is pleased to confirm that two of its national staff who were abducted on Thursday evening in Karachi are now safe and well," the agency said in a statement.
"The police led the investigation, in close contact with Unicef and the staff members' families."
