Manchester United manager clings to positives despite Everton defeat

LIVERPOOL: Manchester United manager David Moyes maintains that there are positives for the club's fans to cling to, despite them being out of contention for the Champions League.

Last season's champions suffered an 11th Premier League defeat of the season when they lost 2-0 at Everton on Sunday.

United were already guaranteed their worst points tally since the start of the Premier League era in 1992 and the result at Goodison Park means that it is no longer possible for them to finish in the top four.

Moyes, however, is adamant that the supporters understand the problems he has faced in taking over from Alex Ferguson and is sure that he can turn the situation around.

"I think everybody knows that we are on track to make changes and do some different things,” said Moyes. “We are rebuilding. The supporters understand it has not been good.

"At Everton there were things that were not that good, but there were things that were good. We need to try and get rid of the bad things and do better with the things we should have done.”

Arsenal have oil in the engine: Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hopes the returns of key midfielders Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey will help his side secure their place in the Premier League's top four.

Ozil returned to action after missing seven matches with a hamstring injury as Arsenal won 3-0 at Hull City on Sunday.

The German was overshadowed, however, by Ramsey, who had a hand in all three goals as Arsenal recorded a victory that kept them in front of Everton in the tussle for the final Champions League place.

"Ramsey and Ozil gave us a cutting edge in the final third that makes us look much more dangerous," said Wenger.

"We knew we had to win. We had that kind of pressure. We could already see against West Ham [a 3-1 win], there's something better, and we saw it again today [Sunday]. It looks like there's oil in the engine again."

Liverpool ready for Chelsea clash: Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers is confident his Liverpool players possess the necessary ingredients to get the better of title rivals Chelsea when the two teams meet at Anfield this weekend.

Liverpool will go into the game five points ahead of Jose Mourinho's side following their 3-2 win at Norwich City on Sunday.

And Rodgers gave an insight into the philosophy that has helped them get there.

"When they are in the changing room just before we go out, I always tell them, 'Lose yourself, focus on the ball and focus on the team — if you do that, then we can be a real force,'" he said.

Rodgers added: "It's going to be a brilliant game next weekend with Chelsea coming to Anfield. The supporters will be right up for it and the players as well. We are looking forward to it."
