The Sindh High Court has restrained on Friday the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) from auctioning nine amenity plots for commercial use.
The conversion of these plots - collectively measuring 9,000-square yards and worth Rs100 million - will be an alleged violation of the town planning laws as well as the observations of the Supreme Court.
Justice Munib Akhtar, who headed the single bench, also directed the law officers of the KMC and the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to file their comments explaining the legality of the auction.
A group of Surjani Town residents had gone to court against the auction of the amenity plots into commercial use as petrol pumps.
