A large vehicle borne improvised explosive device (IED) was defused by the bomb disposal unit (BDU) in Jamrud, Khyber Agency on Wednesday night.
According to Jamrud subdivision Assistant Political Agent Roshan Khan, the incident occurred at about 10pm. A car was heading towards Takhta Baig when it was flagged down by khasadar officials at a check post. Instead of stopping at the post, the unidentified driver abandoned the vehicle 100 metres before and fled.
Khasadar officials then approached the car and found three CNG kits connected to different wires after which they called the BDU.
Khan said unidentified militants had planted a high-intensity bomb in the vehicle and had connected it to the CNG kits. The Pak-Afghan Highway was closed for three hours while the bomb was being defused.
Around 20 kilogrammes of explosives were used in the bomb, shared BDU officials.
