Public support is indispensable in containing and preventing dengue.
While speaking at a day-long seminar on dengue prevention, organised by the Women Development Centre, Environment District Officer Mian Mohammad Nawaz said comprehensive measures were being taken by government departments to eliminate dengue-breeding grounds. He urged people not to store water in pots on their roofs besides denying possible breeding grounds for the dengue larva. He said dengue cannot be eliminated in a short time and continuous efforts would have to be made to fight it.
A large number of students of the Social Welfare Department and representatives of various other departments also attended the seminar.
District Officer Mohammad Aslam Maitla said all subsidiary departments of the Social Welfare Department were actively fighting the disease, while awareness seminars and trainings were also being arranged for the staff to help them take measures to root out the disease.
“Dengue is a dangerous disease and everyone should play their role to eliminate it,” he said.
Women Development Centre Assistant Director Rukhsana Mazhar Awan said the centre was carrying out activities to raise awareness about dengue by involving the public.
The participants were given briefing on identifying dengue larvae and methods of elimination.
