WAPDA earn victory over KRL

KARACHI: Wapda, the seven-time national champions, defeated defending champions Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) 3-1 as Pakistan Navy drew against Young Blood Football club 1-1 in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPL) matches in Rawalpindi.

Wapda took an early lead in the 16th minute through their star striker Arif Mehmood, who doubled the score in the 28th minute and Wapda led 2-0 at the interval.

As the seven-time champions continued with their aggressive attacking game, right-winger Muhammad Asif sealed the victory in the 50th minute with the third goal of the match, leaving KRL looking for chances to counter the attack. Ghazi Muhammad then scored the only goal for KRL in the 81st minute. Wapda is leading PPL with 41 points while KRL are on the fourth place with 26 points.

In the other match of the day, Nomi Martin Gill scored the first goal of the match against Young Blood FC in the 15th minute as Navy led 1-0 at the interval. However, Asim Mansoor equalised for Young Blood FC in the 67th minute. Navy moved to the sixth spot with 24 points after drawing the match, while Young Blood FC are among the weakest five teams in the league with only nine points to their credit.
