Team gives up hopes of overtaking current leaders Mercedes

KARACHI: Ferrari are trying everything they can to establish themselves as the second-best behind Mercedes in the current Formula One season, according to ESPN.

Team principal Stefano Domenicali has stepped down from his post to add to Ferrari’s season woes; however, engineering director Pat Fry said work on the car has continued in all areas.

"Since the Bahrain race, it's been a very busy time for us,” said Fry.

“We examined all areas of car performance from the power unit to suspension configurations and aerodynamic improvements.

Fry admitted that Ferrari's recovery would initiate when they beat the likes of Red Bull, McLaren, Force India and Williams in the battle behind Mercedes.

"Currently, our first priority is to establish ourselves as the second-best team,” he concluded.

Wolff wary of team’s complacency

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has cautioned his team against being self-satisfied after its dominant start to the season.

Mercedes have won all three races this year and scored one-twos at the last two grands prix, with Lewis Hamilton leading Nico Rosberg. But Wolff is wary of the progress being made by some of his rivals.

“Although we have enjoyed a positive start to the season, with time the balance of the field will start to even out,” said Wolff.

“If we are to sustain any sort of advantage that we may currently have, it's up to us to keep raising the bar in every area.”
