The plant will provide employment opportunities to 25,000 engineers, technicians and labour in Karachi. The chief minister (CM) said while speaking to the country director of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Kaoru Shiaishi who called on him along with his research analyst Saadia Manzoor at the CM house.
“The transfer of automobile and electronic technology from Japan to Sindh will prove to be an instrumental source for the development and prosperity in the province,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of economic development and offered full administrative support to Japanese companies.
Addressing the delegation, the chief minister said that 2,000 acres of land has been earmarked by the government for the establishment of the Japan Special Economic Zone along with National Highways in Karachi, where all necessary infrastructural facilities would be provided to Japanese companies for their investment.
In addition, the Sindh government has recommended the Federal Board of Investment, through a summary, for declaring the National Industrial Park (NIP) at Bin-Qasim a ‘Special Economic Zone’ to facilitate the Japanese Company for the setting up of the Yamaha manufacturing plant.

Its old varient of Yamaha produced by Dawood Yamaha Limited DYL Motorcycles with collaboration with Yamaha Japan but in last quarter of 2013 DYL broke up with Yamaha and start producing there own.
There are speculations that this venture will produce motorcycles of capacity greater than 125cc. Also the bikes will be equipped with latest technologies.
Now the game is of prices. which depends upon deletion level/quality standards/custom duties on imported CKD/SKD parts. lets see.

The question is When? Japanese can come next hour If and When serious. Choosing Karachi reflect to bring in outdated assembly unit with outdated models. Looks like Sind Government not able to provide needed infrastructure for Special Japanese Economic Zone Yet. Set up the proposed Zone for Domestic too. Is Sind Government Serious.
Not to offend anyone,but this seems to me from 80-90s. Indeed consumers in Pakistan paying much for outdated technologies.
its a cheap auto component assembly unit.. everything will be manufactured elsewhere and assembled here at low cost.. yes may be some cheap low utility parts be sourced locally at best.. who in their right mind will invest in manufacturing here, and not go to China or India?
In order to end the economic disparity Internal Sindh must have industries as well. Someone must tell Qaim Ali Shah that concentrating all industries in one city is actually counter productive in every manner. Economic divide between Internal Sindh and Karachi is widening with the passage of time. Sindh gov must devise ways and means to develop the industries elsewhere other than Karachi to promote economic harmony in the region.
