LAHORE:

A divisional convention of bar representatives organised by the Lahore Bar Association on Saturday passed a resolution demanding that the Lahore High Court chief justice withdraw words he had allegedly used for lawyers within a week.

They said unwelcome court staffers using derogatory language against lawyers should be dismissed and that action be taken against those who ridiculed lawyers in their speeches. Representatives of bar associations of Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sangla Hill, Shahkot, Chuniab, Ferozewala, Pattoki, Depalpur and Reinala Khurd were present.

MR Awan, a LBA member, said representatives of district bar associations had decided to use the word ‘my lord’ for sweepers instead of using the term in court till the chief justice apologised. LBA president Chaudhary Ishatiaq said lawyers did not want a confrontation with the judges. The LHC public relations offIcer had issued a statement last week dismissing claims that the chief justice had insulted lawyers.
