The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) obtained a 10-day physical remand of another two income tax officials in Abbottabad allegedly involved in the embezzlement of Rs160 million.
Investigation Officer Inayatullah Khan produced the accused, Masoodur Rehman and Ali Afsar, in the accountability court and requested a 14-day physical remand for the completion of investigation. The accountability court turned down the request and granted a 10-day remand instead.
Special Prosecutor Lajbar Khan informed the court that on the pretext of assisting affected people of the 2005 earthquake in Abbottabad, the accused prepared bogus income tax refund documents. Khan added that through collecting signed cheques from earthquake affected people during 2008-09, they embezzled a huge amount of Rs160 million.
In the same case, on March 25 NAB arrested income tax commissioner Asif Haider Orakzai and officials of the Federal Board of Revenue, Mohammad Saddique and Mohammad Haroon.
