Alarming: UNICEF confirms poliovirus in Quetta
Jamia Salfia, Takhtani Bypass and Sur Pur are 3 sites in Quetta from where samples are collected for poliovirus.
QUETTA:
Poliovirus has been found in the sewage water samples collected from Sur Pul Site of the provincial capital, UNICEF and WHO sources confirmed on Wednesday. They said wild poliovirus was still present in the city as samples collected from the sewage system suggested its existence in the environment. The sewage samples were collected by the World Health Organisation (WHO) experts from Sur Pul site, that covers Spini Road, Kharotabad, Jinnah Town, Sabzal Road, Shehbaz Town, Cantt and Huda. The samples were found positive for the wild poliovirus type 1. Jamia Salfia, Takhtani Bypass and Sur Pur are the three sites in Quetta from where the samples are collected for poliovirus.
