Latif, who is part of the Port Qasim Authority’s sports department, was named chief selector on February 26. He was to replace former cricketer Azhar Khan, who served as the acting chief selector for the Asia Cup and the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20.
Explaining his decision to not take up the charge, Latif said he did not want to become part of any controversy and that his departure was an amicable one.
The Express Tribune had earlier learnt that PCB and Latif reached a deadlock regarding the induction of former captain Mohammad Yousuf in the selection panel. Reportedly, a few senior players tried to pressurise the board not to appoint Yousuf.
Yousuf has been openly criticising the likes of Shahid Afridi, Misbahul Haq, Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Akmal in recent months while there had also been certain grudges during his playing days with the current senior lot.

Why MUST former players be inducted into the highest administrative quarters? ESPECIALLY the likes of Yousuf!
Typical case of wanting power without responsibility! Wants to have the right to criticize anyone but not the courage to try and set things right. Cause he knows... How easy it is to criticize... He knows how easy it is...
Raises a question mark on Sethi's Management.
@Mohsin: Sorry bro, we cant win with current players and rotating same old faces has caused same results, this was an opportunity missed by PCB to truly invest in new Pakistani team. It seems we will see more of the same again.
Shame on PCB you are truly "pathetic cricket board" and do not support honest and honorable men who want to serve country.
Well done Rashid. Please do not become part of any ad-hoc arrangement. PCB has seen 9 chairmen in last 17 years.
I really admire his work when it comes to ground level cricket, but he is incapable of handling senior post because of his Ego.
For the first time EVER, things were going to go good for Pakistan cricket with Rashid Latif stepping in, but NO! this is Pakistan and nothing good can ever come out of it. This is how messed up and corrupt we are.
He was doing the right way, he was the chief selector and it was his right to bring in his men, but no PCB has to intervene and make sure that politics remain.
Rashid Latif and Muhammad Yousuf would have been an awesome and deadly combo and it could have started to "clean" selection of politics..
Wow! I salute you buddy. You do have the courage and the character to reject such a job.
This is not a professional way when you have all thrust to bring change and you opt to let it go. RL has always this kind of attitude to make noise only...
Yousuf should not be part of any board committee. He is good person but has a negative approach towards the game.
What a loss for Pakistan Cricket.
Rashid Latif, one of the best wicket keepers Pakistan has produced, has this habit of running away from issues and avoid facing them when anything going against him.
Muhammad Yosuf should be kept out for good.
It is humble request we want imran nazir back.......Razzaq also...M.Amir,....S.khan,bhti;Tanvir
And this is one reason I stopped watching cricket over a decade ago. Once again we witnessed the senior players and management putting their own interests before the game’s. They are incapable of taking any criticism. Glad that I haven’t had wasted my energies supporting a bunch of hypocrites.
