KARACHI: Sindh Food Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar has suspended three food inspectors, Altaf Jatoi, Yasir Gabol and Ali Arshad Zaidi, for being absent from duty without prior permission or approval from the relevant authority. The suspension orders were issued on the basis of a report by a special vigilance team that found the three officials absent from duty when they visited the check-post at the Sindh-Balochistan border. The team was constituted by the food minister to keep a check on the officials deployed at the check posts to prevent smuggling of wheat to Balochistan. Separately, the food department has thwarted an attempt to illegally transport wheat to Balochistan, via Jacobabad, and taken 720 bags of wheat in its custody. The attempt to smuggle the wheat out of the province was being led by a head constable of the food department.
