ISLAMABAD:

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) recovered three stolen vehicles and arrested one suspect during routine patrolling in the past week.

Two of the three cars were recovered from the M-1 motorway near Islamabad, while the third was found in Sheikhupura district on the Lahore-Islamabad M-2 motorway, according to the NHMP.

Authorities said NHMP officers Yunus Ansari and Waseem Akhtar were on routine patrol when they found a white car (LED-9653) stationary near the Burhan interchange on the M-1. While searching the car, they found a visiting card for one Muhammad Waqas. When they called him, he said he was the owner of the car and it had been snatched from his driver by four unidentified armed men while en route to Faisalabad from Islamabad.

NHMP officers also found a stationary Toyota Corolla GLI (LEC-5134) on the M-2 near Khanqah Dogran in Sheikhupura district. The car had been reported stolen from Chiniot on the 130 helpline.

In the third incident, NHMP officers got suspicious when they noticed a speeding Suzuki pick-up which was frequently changing lanes. When the officers flagged it to stop, the driver sped away. Police were able to intercept the driver near the Burhan interchange on M-1. During interrogation, the driver confessed he had stolen the car from Gawalmandi in Lahore and was heading towards Swabi, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
