Caught red-handed: Wanted gangster killed in encounter

Nazir, who was affiliated with the Uzair Baloch group of Lyari gangsters, was wanted to the police in several cases.

KARACHI: A suspected gangster, Mullah Nazir Ahmed, was shot dead during an alleged encounter with the police at Keamari, within the limits of Jackson Police Station, on Monday. Nazir, who was affiliated with the Uzair Baloch group of Lyari gangsters, was wanted to the police in several cases. A special police team, acting on a tip-off, raided the gangsters’ hideout at Gulshan-e-Sikandarabad, near Mubarak mosque. When the party reached the site, the suspects opened fire at them. In the retaliatory fire, one of the suspects was killed while his accomplices managed to escape. The deceased was later identified as Mullah Nazir, a high-profile criminal. According to the duty officer at the Jackson Police Station, Nazir was involved in over a hundred cases of murder. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital, Karachi, for autopsy.
