Competition in disguise: Traffic DIG launches campaign to reduce accidents

To reduce road accidents, the Traffic police DIG Muhammad Arif Hanif has announced a competition for SSPs in all districts of Karachi to launch a traffic awareness week from April 21 to April 27.


"The victims of road accidents either lack road sense or poor knowledge of traffic rules and regulation," said the DIG traffic on Sunday. "It is important that we take initiatives for the safety of the public," he stressed.

During the week, camps will be set up that would be equipped with public address systems, pamphlets and guidance booklets, according to his instructions. They will also conduct seminars and deliver lectures at schools, arrange walks for a cause, visit public service bus terminals and deliver lectures to the drivers and conductors in association with their unions.

Hanif directed the officials to display banners with road safety slogans on busy thoroughfares. The officials will motivate the public to follow traffic signals and road signs, while also informing the about the consequences of violating traffic rules.

A prize distribution ceremony would be held at Saleem Vahidi Auditorium at Clifton where commendation certificates with cash rewards would be granted to the officers exhibiting excellent performance for the success of the event.
