Members of two criminal gangs, which allegedly snatched vehicles on gun point, were picked up by the Islamabad police on Thursday.

According to the police, the Shahzad town police acted on the complaint of a resident who had been deprived of his Suzuki pick-up van on gun point, to crack down upon two gangsters who had been involved in snatching vehicles.

They said Adnan Tariq, a resident of Azad Kashmir, reported to police that two people snatched his taxicab (TJ-246) at gun point after they had hired the car at Mandi Mor to go to Farash Town. Tariq told the police that the car snatchers had also tied up his colleague Faizan Zakir with a rope before escaping.

Later, a team of investigators tracked down the suspects and arrested two people, Majid Ali and Muhammad Fayyaz. The police claimed to have recovered two snatched vehicles from them, along with a pistol.

Meanwhile, the police also claimed to have arrested two suspected gangsters involved in snatching motorbikes and valuables from people in different areas of the capital. During interrogation, the suspects, Zameer and Haneefur Rehman, confessed to involvement in robbery incidents in the Shehzad Town area, the police said. The police recovered mobile phones and a laptop from them.
