KARACHI: Shahid Afridi on Wednesday said that he thought that the cricket team performed very well overall during the World Twenty20 World Cup, Express News reported, before adding that they should have played the match with more aggression.

Speaking to the media at the Jinnah International Airport on Wednesday evening after returning from Bangladesh, Afridi said that the team should have played with aggression.

“We wanted to play well in the last match, but unfortunately we couldn’t,” he said.

Afridi tweeted on Wednesday evening applogising for not living up to the expectation of the nation on behalf of entire team.

He also thanked supporters for supporting the national team throughout the World Twenty20 Cup.

Commenting on the team’s disappointing performance during their last match against West Indies, he said: “We should have played the match with aggression.”

Afridi said that for the first 16 overs in the first innings, Pakistan bowled well against West Indies, adding that their performance went downhill after the sixth over in the second innings.

“After the sixth over, the match was out of our hands.”

The all-rounder praised his team and said that they will improve during the time that they have off.

“The players that Pakistan has are good. These four-five months the team doesn’t play cricket, we can train and work towards improving our performance,” he said.

Mirza | 10 years ago | Reply There is no humbleness even after the worst defeat of a test playing team in the history of T-20. WI outplayed Pakistan in every department of the game. Spin bowling and pace which was our strength was taken apart in the last five over of WI innings. Our batsmen fell apart in the face of WI spinners. Ramdin had record number of stumping and we were outplayed in every department of the game. Pakistani is great against mediocre teams they won against the two bottom teams and lost against both the top teams of their pool. The young WI team under Sammy is totally different from Pakistan a have been. We are still in love with Malik, Kamran and company and there is no sign that we would even think about a new young team. We love our old spent starts too much no matter what. Not long ago in Asia Cup we were beaten by Sri Lanka twice so no surprises here.
