Nisar Khuhro takes notice of mismanagement during Matric exams in Karachi

Education minister asks concerned authorities to take corrective measures as soon as possible.

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Education Nisar Khuhro on Wednesday took notice of mismanagement during the matriculation examinations at some exam centres in Karachi, Express News reported.

The examination began on time at some of the centres while others faced delays as the question papers did not reach the venues on time. Many centres failed to make adequate seating arrangement for the students, while others did not have drinking water available.

When the matter was brought to Khuhro's notice, the education minister asked the concerned authorities to take corrective measures as soon as possible.

Students of Korangi School staged a demonstration outside the board office in the city because they did not receive admit cards, which are a prerequisite for sitting the exams.

The board exams will be held from April 2 till April 22 in Karachi and around 325,000 students are expected to appear.

Around 133 of the 295 exam centres for the matriculation examinations were declared ‘sensitive’ in terms of cheating and security.

Security arrangements

The authorities had decided to deploy the paramilitary force at all the sensitive exam centres, mostly located in Orangi Town, Korangi, Malir, Baldia, Gadap and Lyari.

Moreover, Section 144, which allows the government to act immediately to halt any activity that poses a threat to health, safety or public order, will be imposed during the exam hours in these areas.

For vigilance during the exams, the school principals will act as the senior superintendents while 40 vigilance teams will ensure that the exams are conducted in a fair manner.
