Diabetics are more prone to developing retinal diseases and need to have regular eye check-ups even if their eye sight was not weak.
This was advised by eye specialists while speaking at the second “Prof Dr Ali Haidar Memorial Retina Symposium,” at the Shifa International Hospital here on Monday.
Dr Haider, a former head of ophthalmology at Lahore General Hospital, was shot dead along with his young son on February 18 last year.
The experts termed his death a national loss as he was one of the country’s finest eye surgeons.
Ophthalmologist Amer Awan performed a macular hole retina surgery through a live video link. He also discussed causes and management of various retinal diseases and advised people to consult eye surgeons at least twice-a-year to prevent retinal diseases. Diabetics must consult their ophthalmologists regularly, even if their eyes are working well,” he said.
