Cross-border attack: Shells fired from Afghanistan land in North Waziristan

Locals say this is the third time this month that shells have landed in North Waziristan.

Around eight mortar shells fired by unidentified militants from across the border in Afghanistan landed in North Waziristan Agency on Saturday morning. According to a security official, no loss of life was reported.

He said the shells landed in Bangi Dar area of Ghulam Khan tehsil.

Locals said this is the third time this month that shells have landed in North Waziristan and urged the government to take action, warning they would otherwise retaliate to the cross-border attacks.

Speaking to journalists, tribesman Gul Muhammad, who runs a business in Khost province of Afghanistan, said foreign troops in Afghanistan and personnel of the Afghan National Army have set up multiple check posts along the border. He added snap checking has also been increased in wake of the upcoming Afghan presidential elections.
