LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Friday sought a reply from Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Najam Sethi on former chairman of National Selection Committee Muhammad Ilyas’ petition against his termination.

The court had earlier sought comments from Sethi on March 5. The petitioner said he was appointed chief selector during the tenure of former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf.

He said after Ashraf’s dismissal through a ruling of the Islamabad High Court, his contract was not extended. The petitioner said he was reappointed to the post after Ashraf was reinstated in light of the final judgment of the Islamabad High Court.

He said the prime minister had then terminated Ashraf and appointed an interim management committee which later elected Najam Sethi as its chairman.

Ilyas said after taking charge Sethi terminated his contract. He said he was not given a personal hearing before his contract was cancelled.

The petitioner asked the court to set aside the order.

The court heard initial arguments and directed the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and other respondents to submit their replies by a date to be set by the registrar’s office.
