KARACHI: An Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) delegation visited the proposed site at Port Qasim where Elengy Terminal Private Limited (ETPL) plans to build a LNG terminal to check if it the project would meet safety and security requirements. The delegation also inspected the channel in a vessel to observe the physical aspects of the project. The visit was followed by a public hearing of the project. Interveners had raised concerns about possible channel congestion, siltation, safety, and other issues relating to site and channel. The visit was Ogra’s initial response to concerns raised about the project. Ogra will now examine the application in light of legal requirements, approvals, and NOCs in addition to the objections raised by the interveners. It was noted that the final approval of the Port Qasim Authority, NOC from the Ministry of Defense and certain studies were still pending.
