The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Inspector General of Police to identify the police official who arrested two suspected bombers, one of whom is still missing, and produce him before the court.
A division bench of Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan was informed by Advocate Ziaul Haq that Sarband police arrested two suspected bombers, Bilal and Jehangir Khan, on November 20, 2012. He added that Bilal was produced in an anti-terrorism court the day after his arrest, while the whereabouts of Jehangir are not known so far. The missing person is around 18-years-old and a student of Superior Science College, Peshawar.
“The photograph of their arrest shows clearly the police official who took them into custody,” said Haq. “He should be questioned about the whereabouts of Jehangir.”
“This is most deplorable on the part of police officials who have produced one person in court, while the family of the other does not even know where he is,” Justice Qaiser Rashid remarked.
The bench then ordered the provincial police chief to identify the official in the picture and produce him before the court on the next date of hearing, even if he belongs to an intelligence agency.
The court also ordered the current and previous SHOs of Sarband police station to provide their statements regarding the case.
In a separate case, the same bench has taken notice of a missing person who has been detained at Ghallanai internment centre in Mohmand Agency.
Noor Zaman, 16, was picked up from Namak Mandi in Peshawar on May 13, 2011, and later handed over to the political administration of Mohmand Agency where he spent around 40 days.
Later, Zaman was given into the custody of Mohmand Rifles and is currently detained at Ghallanai internment centre.
The court directed the provincial and federal governments, and the Mohmand Rifles to submit their statements regarding the matter.
