Accelerated Certificate in Company Direction: PICG, IoD join hands to introduce certification

Will provide opportunity to join network of directors in 34 countries.

KARACHI: Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG) has joined hands with the UK’s Institute of Directors (IoD) to introduce the globally recognised Accelerated Certificate in Company Direction under the Royal Charter in Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, PICG President and CEO Fuad Hashimi said the qualification will provide Pakistan’s professionals with an opportunity to become part of a global network of trained directors in 34 countries.

Founded on a public-private partnership basis in 2004, PICG started a directors’ training programme in February 2007. As many as 480 participants, including 45 women, have attained certificates of director education since then.



The Accelerated Certification Programme is designed as an intensive, advanced course for an internationally recognised qualification. “The programme’s setting within an international context makes it a unique educational experience not only for senior executives preparing for a board mandate, but also for current directors from organisations of all sizes and sectors, who want to bring specific competences and credibility to the boards on which they serve,” Hashmi said.

IoD was incorporated by a Royal Charter in 1906. It sets standards for company directors and currently boasts of 34,500 members across the United Kingdom. The programme will be conducted by the PICG faculty over five and a half days. It will be followed by a comprehensive exam in monitored conditions on set dates.

The IoD will provide the PICG with course material, case studies and online learning tools. The main components of the programme will be the role of the director and the board, finance for non-financial directors, the director’s role in strategy and marketing, and the director’s role in leading the organisation.

Unlike the PICG’s programme that consisted of 48 hours, the IoD programme will span over 77.

The programme uses a combination of online and face-to-face learning techniques. On successful completion of the programme, candidates will be issued a certificate in company direction by the IoD UK, thus enabling them to use the letters ‘Cert IoD’ after their names.
