PESHAWAR:

Federal secretary Amjad Shahid Afridi told his friends he was going out for a meal on March 19 and did not return to Shahi Mehmankhana where he was staying. He is still missing.

His car, however, was found abandoned by the motorway near Chach Interchange, Hasanabdal on Thursday night.

Police said the car was handed over to Nowshera police who then gave it to Peshawar police as it was an official government vehicle.

Afridi had been residing at Shahi Mehmankhana after his transfer to Peshawar from Islamabad on March 10. One of the reasons his disappearance went unnoticed is because his family was not living with him at the time.

An official of the East Cantt police station said they got in touch with the family. “We asked his son, Waseem, to try and get in touch with his father but he got no response,” he said.
