The continuing madness in Pakistan

Letter March 21, 2014
Pakistani Hindus have been model citizens of the country, hardly ever taking the law into their hands.

AMANZIMTOTI, SOUTH AFRICA: This is with reference to Ayesha Siddiqa’s article of March 20 titled “Is Larkana not Gojra?”. This was a well-written piece. Just when something terrible happens in Pakistan, we tend to think it cannot get any worse, only to be proved wrong. Then we start thinking of the initial incident as insignificant, which is a real tragedy. It is sad that a Hindu Dharamshala has been attacked in Sindh. Pakistani Hindus have been model citizens of the country, hardly ever taking the law into their hands.

A few years ago, I was checking into a hotel in London and met a guy with a Hindu name and asked him which part of India he came from. He replied, “I come from Pakistan.” I asked him if his community is being persecuted in the country. “Rubbish,” he said, “we have no problems and people accept us as one of them.”

I was so happy to hear that. I wish I could meet him again and offer him my deepest apologies for the madness of those who attack religious places of other faiths. There is no other word for this than madness.
