ISLAMABAD:

An awareness walk was held on Friday at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) campus highlighting the importance of forests in our life. The walk was organised by NUST Environment Club, said a press release.

The university’s Pro-Rector Engineer Muhammad Shahid, faculty members and students participated in the walk that started from the main office and concluded at Business School ground, where students from Environment Club displayed posters and banners to create awareness about the conservation of forests, an essential part of life.

The Pro-Rector in his address lauded the club for arranging the campaign. “We must make use of rainwater because if we don’t use this than as predicted, Pakistan will become a desert and water stressed country,” he said.

The pro-rector advised the students to plant a sapling in the university and engrave their name on it, so that when they come back after ten years in the university it will remind them of their contribution.

It concluded with the distribution of awards and certificates to the winners of an essay writing competition on importance of trees. Ali Aitzaz got first position, Huma Tariq stood second whereas Nauman Hanif ended third.
