Sectarian incident: Man arrested for 2012 attack

GILGIT:

The main accused behind a grenade attack on an Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) rally in 2012 has been arrested, claimed the police on Sunday.

At least four people were killed and nearly 60 others injured when two motorcyclists lobbed a grenade on the rally two years ago. The incident sparked a bloody spate of sectarian violence, leading to at least ten more deaths in Chilas the next day amid clashes between various groups. The rally had been called by ASWJ to demand the release of one of its leaders who had been detained earlier. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a police official shared that a team of intelligence officials raided a house in Bubar Village of Ghizer and arrested Zulfiqar, son of Ghulam Ali and a resident of Barmas, Gilgit.
