The position of the top cop in the province has been vacant for almost a month since former IG Sindh Shahid Nadeem Baloch retired from the post on February 20.
Additional Inspector General of Crime Investigation Department (CID) Iqbal Mehmood provisionally took over reigns of the Sindh IG after Baloch's retirement.
The Sindh government suggested former Karachi police chief Iqbal Mehmood and former Sindh police chief Fayyaz Leghari for the post but the federal government said that DIG Farooq Ameen Qureshi and National Highways and Motorway Police Inspector General Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema are being considered as Baloch's successors.
This led to an argument between both parties and it was decided to choose someone for the post that everyone is satisfied with. According to sources, a new IG will be appointed in the next two days.
According to the 18th Amendment, the federal government cannot appoint any officer for the post of IGP without consulting the provincial government.

Farooq Amin Qureshi is the most competent and honest from all these officers and he is also Sindhi. His services must not be overlooked.
The Eighteenth Amendment has fueled fissiparous tendencies and must be repealed to save the Federation.
why not change the whole Police system and follow the London Metropolitan Police, where even the chief of police serves as a foot constable first, then gradually climbing the promotion ladder. No direct appointments.
I would want zulfiqar cheema to be the next IG considering his previous performance in Gujaranwala and other districts of Punjab which were havens for criminals until Mr Cheema swiped them clean.
a competent person who is not involved in politics should be appointed as I.G.P sindh...Fayyaz Leghari has soft corner for PPP
Zulfiqar Cheema no question. The Federal Govt is right on this one.
Thats what MQM fuss about, merit . Z z z z z z z z
MERIT IS ZULFIQAR CHEEMA
I wish the most honest and competent person is Sindh Police, Mr. Bashir Memon be appointed as IG Sindh.
Given PPP's lack of commitment with peace in Karachi, I support federal govts suggested person, Zulfiqar cheema. He carries excellent record while serving in Punjab.
