Two nurses in ICU after police baton-charge demonstrators

LAHORE:
Nurses protesting in front of the Punjab Assembly on Friday were baton-charged and as a result, two nurses sustained critical injuries and are currently in the ICU, Express News reported. 

These nurses were protesting against the Health Department for firing nurses who had been working on contract or on ad-hoc basis.

The protest entered into its fifth day on Friday, initially staged outside the Federal Health Department.


The demonstration was later moved to the Punjab Assembly.

In response of the protest, the Punjab Health Advisor had stated that nurses will only be hired if they pass the Public Service Commission exams.

Correction: In an earlier version of this story it stated that a nurse had died but there are now conflicting reports . The error is regretted.
