KOHAT: A man was gunned down in an apparent case of honour killing in Shakar Darra, Kohat on Thursday.

Shoukat Saleem, an official of Shakar Darra police, said Umar Khan filed a case with the police stating that he was with his brother Ijaz Mehmood when the incident took place. He said they were on their way to a house in Bori Saghri when Umar said Gulab, Ramzan, Abdullah, Ibrahim and Haji Anwar approached them and opened fire. Ijaz was killed on the spot, while Umar narrowly escaped.

Saleem added that the accused men fled from the scene of crime, while the body was taken to Kohat Divisional Hospital for an autopsy.

The official said initial investigation revealed that Abdullah’s daughter had eloped with Ijaz some time ago. Despite convening jirgas between both families to return the girl to her parents, Ijaz refused, after which Abdullah had threatened to kill Ijaz.

Saleem said a case had been filed against the accused and further investigation is under way.
