The girl had set herself on fire on March 13 in front of the Mir Hazar Khan police station after hearing that the suspects who had allegedly raped her were granted bail.
With 70% of the body burnt, the girl succumbed to her injuries today in the hospital.
Opposition members in the Punjab Assembly staged a walk out, protesting the incident. They claimed that the government has failed to perform its duties.
Police have arrested the main accused and investigating officer Rana Zulfiqar, who had said that the accused were innocent and that's why released on bail.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had taken notice of the incident and had directed the authorities concerned to submit a report. He had also issued directives that the victim should be provided the best possible medical care.
Police had registered a rape case against six suspects on January 5.

What do we expect when there is no justice and no punishment to criminals. Over 7,000 criminals are awaiting death sentences but there has not been a single execution during the past seven years. So every criminal is confident to get away unpunished in the process. It is high time to restart executions. Initially, public hangings need to be carried out in Major cities.
Punjab government is failing completely in protecting women, children, and minorities from the hyenas in the society and within its own apparatus. Total lack of governance.
With such worst situation of justice this society will not exist for long. For most of the public sector institutions (legislature, executive, judiciary all included) the situation is so grim that:
"Having no such institution at all is better than to have such sick anti-performing organization".
Thanks to previous CJ for setting an example which lit a ray of hope, although very bleak.
notice taken.....no result.....Shabaz shreef will ask I.G. for report...then life as usual...
For some this justice is too late.
Highly unfortunate incident. But that is how the matters stand nowadays in this country. Justice has become a saleable commodity and on top of that a case has been registered against her. Which means she has the right to be raped but has no right to protest against injustice.
There must be subhumans living in the subcontinent. The suffering of women in this region is unlike anything anywhere. I really hope that the governments of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh educate their citizens and instill respect for women.
sorry girls we cannot provide you security and justice... we are busy in breaking some world records in punjab.
For the superior court to take suo motu action means nothing as its seen that apart from moral authority the court is helpless.........so now even its moral authority means little.
it's really sad to know that desperate measures such as this are noticed and taken actions against.
It is heinous crime against the powerful and state - and state that called itself - Islamic Republic.
Most unfortunate - at least SC is still a bit alive on basic human cum citizen matters
Police Inspector lied evidently. No one sets oneself on fire like this. The rapists should be stoned to death as ordained by Shariah. Government should establish a radical response unit for female violations. ... and again my heart weeps over such cries thinking how many other women must be facing this in our country. Shame on the government and police.
There are series of cases in this country when Police is supportive to criminals. How there could be peace when injustice is rampant? No action can bring back the life and honor lost.
