A dangerous education: Grade 10 student killed a day before exams

KOHAT/ JAMRUD: Mohibullah, a grade 10 student who was due to give his secondary school certificate (SSC) examination, was shot dead by unidentified militants in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency on Tuesday evening.

Jan Khan, the father of the deceased and a member of the Mastal Khel tribe, said his son was in their car at around 7pm on his way to Sakhi Puk when the vehicle was ambushed by unidentified militants near Spela Nokas graveyard. Mohibullah perished instantly. According to Khan, he saw his son before 6pm and then saw his body at 2am.


The father said the men escaped from the scene of crime. He insisted the family has no dispute or enmity with anyone.


Mohibullah was a student at the Government Higher Secondary School in Jamrud and was supposed to give his first exam on Wednesday.


In Kohat

In an unrelated incident, a student was injured when two rivals allegedly opened fire at him on Mohammadzai Road on Wednesday. According to a Cantt police official, Shehryar Khan of Nasrat Khel village was on his way back home from Commerce College on his motorcycle when Shakil of Darra Adam Khel and Waqas of College Town allegedly shot at him. As a result, Shehryar sustained injures and was taken to a hospital.


While recording his statement, Shehryar told the police he was attacked because of a dispute with a boy identified as Shah Fahad.


School gates damaged

The main gates of two private schools were damaged in explosions in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency early morning on Wednesday.


Political tehsildar Ali Sher said the first incident occurred when an explosive planted near Nation Public High School went off at around 4am. The school’s gate was damaged and no casualties were reported.


The other incident occurred in Teddy Bazaar besides the Ghazali Public High School building. The school’s main gate was damaged. This took place 10minutes after the first incident. Sher said they had filed a case and launched a search operation in the area.
