Petition filed : Cops’ families await compensation

KARACHI: Justice Helpline, a non-profit organisation, has filed a constitutional petition with the Sindh High Court to order payment of compensation to the legal heirs of 172 policemen killed in the line of duty last year.

The organisation stated that the police department usually announces an immediate compensation of Rs40,000 for the funeral expenses of the slain cops and another Rs2 million for the victim’s family.

However, they alleged that a majority of the heirs have received neither the funeral expenses nor any other compensation, even though the police department has received Rs320 million for this purpose and the provincial government has also approved Rs600 million.
