The decision came during a meeting between the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano in Islamabad on Monday.
A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the IAEA chief appreciated Pakistan’s safe and secure operations of nuclear power plants in the country.
The foreign affairs adviser welcomed the positive role played by the atomic energy agency in development of peaceful uses of nuclear technology in Pakistan.
Pakistan is already one of the top recipients of IAEA technical cooperation. As a member of the IAEA board of governors, Pakistan is also contributing to the agency’s decision making.

An acknowledgement of IAEA towards Pakistan’s efforts in making its nuclear structure safe and sound. Enhancing more on technical cooperation is a really healthy sign which also unknot many new horizons of cooperation at the international front with other nations. The IAEA is an international body which manages the nuclear activities of the country and Pakistan is an important part of its decision making body. This is also instrumental in boosting up Pakistan as a nuclear weapon state in the world. It is a big achievement of all the related authorities of Pakistan nuclear facilities that despite of being the non-signatory member of NPT, the country voluntarily put lot of efforts to ensure the security of its nuclear credentials.

Cooperation is exclusively for peaceful purposes and is fully covered under IAEA safeguards as well as in conformity with international commitments of both countries. Pakistan has 40 year experience of maintaining and safeguarding its civilian nuclear power plants. Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority, an autonomous body, regulates and ensures safety and security of civilian nuclear materials and facilities. It works closely with IAEA.
Pakistan is a country who has established a proper authority for the smooth and secured running of its nuclear program. It has always maintained the structure of the establishment by keeping itself up to the mark of standards settled by IAEA for safe operation of nuclear power plants. Pakistan unlike other nuclear weapon states has also played an impressive role in the civilian use of nuclear energy. Its infact a very heartening to know that IAEA itself is very optimistic about the role of Pakistan as a nuclear power.
