FAISALABAD: Kotwali police on Wednesday registered cases against five lawyers and a clerk for assaulting police guards when they tried to search them at the entrance of the district kutchery.

City Police Officer Dr Haidar Ashraf said, “Following the incident at the Islamabad courts, we decided to increase security level at the district courts here and deputed additional force. The guards are directed not to allow anyone on the court premises without a full body search.”

Ashraf said that Assistant Sub Inspector Shakeel Ahmad had been deputed at the entrance of the district court. When he tried to search Advocate Imtiaz Loona, however, he flared up and called his colleagues.

The CPO said a group of five lawyers beat Ahmad up. In a separate incident, Muhammad Irfan, a clerk, scuffled with Constable Mubashar Niazi when he tried to frisk him. Ashraf said the police had registered separate cases. No one has been arrested so far.
