Voting will be held in nine phases, staggered until May 12 to allow security forces to focus their strength during an exercise that, for decades after independence from Britain in 1947, has often been marred by violence and ballot-rigging. Counting of votes will begin on May 16, Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath told a news conference.

Manmohan Singh, though a honest man himself, presided over the most corrupt government in the history of India. No previous government was ever accused of so many scams, neither such massive scales of corruption were ever heard of. This government has institutionalized the corruption in politics and bureaucracy to such an extent, that even Modi and his new government will find it hard to change the matters. Modi in all likelihood will have to live with corrupt ministries and coalition partners, if he doesn't want to risk his government. The only way corruption levels can possibly be brought down in India is for people to take the matters in their own hands, and express their total disgust with the corrupt politicians in the coming election. In particular, the Congress party must be handed such a drubbing that it never again dares to think of another scam. I would like to see the Congress party wiped out from Lok Sabha for next five years.
