ISLAMABAD: While addressing the National Assembly, Leader of Opposition Khursheed Shah said that it was dangerous to include a serving army official in the peace negotiations, Express News reported on Wednesday.

He stated that the inclusion of such an official in the peace talks will have serious consequences if the negotiations failed.

The government was considering reconstituting its four-member negotiating committee in a bid to make the nascent peace process more ‘effective and result-oriented,’ The Express Tribune had learnt on March 4.

A committee member had said that he and his colleagues have unanimously suggested that the prime minister induct politicians and senior army officials into the committee.

Shah further added that he does not have any objections to whether the government holds the peace talks themselves or via an intermediary committee.

Mirza | 10 years ago | Reply Hello? When the generals are making foreign policy in dealing with India, USA and Afghanistan then what is the problem in openly including them? Without their approval nothing would happen anyway. Army owns the country not the poor uneducated masses. That is why they have no respect for their democratic decisions and crumple the constitution under their boots at will and each time get away with high treason!

Presence of an army general in negotiations will save army intelligence services lot of efforts and resources which they would be wasting on bugging.
