Solar energy: PCRET to illuminate villages

Basic objective of project is upgradation of silicon crystal growing, cell fabrication and lamination facilities.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET) has initiated a project under which different villages throughout the country will be provided electricity though the promotion of clean and renewable solar energy through the photovoltaic process. The basic objective of this project is the upgradation of silicon crystal growing, cell fabrication and lamination facilities. It will enhance the indigenous production of solar cells and modules up to 80 kilowatts per annum along with the promotion of clean and renewable solar energy through the photovoltaic process, official sources at PCRET told the media. He said that Pakistan is blessed with abundance of renewable energy potential, including solar potential of more than 5-6 kWH/m2/day of irradiation in many areas.
