A dangerous journey: 11 killed, almost 100 injured in road accidents

A van carrying paramedical staff travelling from Sehwan to Hyderabad flipped over after its tyre burst, injuring 11.

HYDERABAD:

Multiple road accidents on the National, Indus and Super highways that coincided with the light rainfall between late Sunday night and Monday morning, resulted in the deaths of 11 passengers, while leaving almost 100 others injured.

In the first accident, which occurred around two kilometres away from Matiari Town, two coaches, a truck and a motorcycle collided on National Highway. Four persons, identified as Rani Shaikh, Fayaz Malik, Aijaz Bhutto and Hoti Khan, were killed and 30 others were injured as a result of the collision. The injured were shifted to Matiari taluka hospital.

In another accident on National Highway near Dadu Bypass in Qazi Ahmed Town, Benazirabad district, a passenger van and a car collided head-on, leaving two children dead. The two deceased were siblings, three-year-old Asif and five-year-old Maheen, while their parents, Sanaullah and Saeeda, were injured. Eight passengers travelling in the van were also injured.

In the third accident on the same highway, a van and a pick-up truck overturned near Miani Forest on the border of Hyderabad and Matiari districts. Two of the passengers, Ameer Hussain Shah and another who has yet to be identified, were killed while over a dozen were injured.

On Sunday night, two women and a child were killed and 29 others injured when a coach carrying 37 passengers overturned on Super Highway that connects Karachi with Hyderabad. The coach was carrying passengers from Karachi to Khairpur district. The deceased were identified as 29-year-old Musarrat, 12-year-old Uzair Raza and another woman.

The patients were shifted to Sehwan taluka hospital where Muhammad Hashim Buhio and Phuto Khan Solangi are reported to be in a critical condition.
