The government should take practical steps to resolve environmental issues that are posing a serious threat to people’s health, many speakers said at a seminar jointly organised by the Eco Green Society and the Citizens Protection Committee (CPC).
Dr Assad Aziz, and environmental experts Muhammed Essa, Touqir Ahmed, M Gahar and Zunaira Sheikh spoke at the event. The speakers said pollution had become a major issue in Pakistan, and no remedial measures had been taken by any government so far.
They said that air, water and noise pollution were the main sources of environmental pollution. They said Lahore was among the most polluted cities in Pakistan. They said citizens’ lives were at risk due to the burning of garbage, industrial waste and noise pollution. They suggested a strict check on the rapid expansion of industrial units in urban areas, rusted water pipes, and garbage burning on the streets by the city govt staff.
