On his arrival, he was received by Karachi Corps commander lieutenant general Sajjad Ghani.
These exercises are aimed at training troops in various tactical operations under a battlefield environment. Fighter aircraft of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and armoured fighting vehicles of the mechanized division also participated in live firing maneuvers as part of the field firing.
The COAS commended the standard of training of the participating troops and lauded their skills. He specifically commended their precision and accuracy in engaging the targets and said that strenuous training along with strong vigilance are the only guarantors of peace.
Army chief Raheel Sharif took the opportunity to go over the resolve of the armed forces and stressed that the army will accomplish their mission of defeating “every threat to our motherland in accordance with the expectation of the people of Pakistan”.

@Sara Khan: You must remember Swat and bajaur Operation where Army generals lead the troops and executed one the most successful counter insurgency operations in recent history (whereas Israeli Army failed to do the same in Bairut and US Army in Nuristan). Please think positive. Positive thinking will contribute to better Pakistan.
Its all about Punjab
This guy sounds a lot like Lieutenant-General "Tiger" Niazi. That aside, the usage of the word "motherland" amounts to "shirk"!
@sterry: Maybe you have heard of it. There is such a thing as freedom of expression. And freedom of the Media. If it was up to you,...no one would be able to express themselves.without fear. We would regress to Zia's era. Thanks the powers that be,.. all you have is a computer and internet access. With your strange twisted logic and Dark Ages mentality.
@sterry: Are you aware that at the time Pakistan was given independence, it had no standing army! Your General could confirm this. And once the Army did take shape it has ever since been acting as a colonial ex British army instead of a real Nationalised army. It has destroyed civil institutions, caused East Pakistan separating from the main corpus, and is now actively engaged in separating KPK and Baluchistan leaving the union. Perhaps not by design but its naivity to think that army participate with elected civilians to rule the country. I am not going to bring into discussion the kashmiri issue.

@goggi (Lahore): Dont compare TTP with Awami league....that was a political fallout,game for powre.The existing threat is different that that of EPakistan
We'll believe it when we see it....
My expectation from our armed forces is for them to follow the policy of our civilian government.
Actions speak louder than words. Until now, thousands of Pakistanis have been killed but no stern action has been taken by the STATE, which is inclusive of all organs, including police, rangers and army. Last in the line, is a deterrent force prepared for external threats, can be effectively used to counter local insurgencies supported by foreign elements like Taleban and other ani state elements in Balochistan. But very sad to say that after killing of thousands of Pakistanis in their own motherland, no ruthless action has been taken by any STATE organ including the Army. In similar circumstances, the people in Karachi are being slaughtered for more than decades, but there is no state authority to take exemplary action against these terrorists. Please take pity on the people of Pakistan and exterminate terrorists from the country whether they are in the tribal belt of KPK, Balochistan and Karachi.
It is about time our generals wake up from their sound sleep. It has only been 50-60 thousand dead, maimed, bombed, and beheaded before they are starting to wake up and defend Pakistanis. Show the same zeal and reaction as we did when by accident the US killed our soldiers. We do not see that outrage as was shown with OBL was killed, Ray Davis left Pakistan on court orders or drone attacks.
@Syed: These soldiers don't face threats from enemy in Siachin but on Western borders where they created these monsters to stir trouble in Kashmir and keep Afghanistan under their control. Unfortunately, the Frankenstein has become too big to be handled. It now wants to consume it's creator. The surgery, if undertaken will be long and painful.
In Pakistan's history,the first prefessional and courageous CAOS has come to teach Pakistan's enemies,inernal and external both. The politicians should stop to play now.Best wishes Pakistan
@Sara Khan: And this comment is ok E.T.? Why am I not surprised. Makes the strongest case for media regulation.
Inshallah, every threat willbe removed,eventyally.God protect our soldiers and Pakistan,ameen.
Knowing that he is a brother of nishan-e-haider reciept Shabbir Sharif Shaheed. I am sure he will never disappoint the nation
'....will defeat any threat to Motherland' With all due respect, so far 50,000 dead and counting. While powers that be are still deciding what to do. Still devising a strategy. That should have been in place years and years ago. Is there a plan B ?
@Sara
Their service after floods and quakes is extraordinary. So it their service in fighting the extremist elements in our country. May Allah bless the army and may they defeat the Taliban. It's silly to blame the current soldiers for 1971.
@Nadir and Sara Khan: ET allows negative comments from Indians against the Pakistani army on their site but when my comment against them and supporting Pakistan army is submitted they don't want to print it but censor it. I just wanted to say that the people killing innocent Pakistan are not Pakistan's strategic assets but those of Pakistan's enemies. The fact that your comments are printed so easily shows you that Pakistanis don't worry about what Pakistan's detractors say.
3rd attempt for the moderator to respect other opinion.
General, your motherland or fatherland is Punjab and the enemy is in the second half of Punjab who is waiting to cross over any time. You contemporaries could not hold on to the Bengal land and you will fail to keep the KPK and Baloch land if the hearts and the minds of its people do not want to remain as part of militaristic Pakistan!

Gen. Raheel comes from a family of army servicemen including TWO Nishan e Haiders - Shaheeds Shabir Sharif and Aziz Bhatti! He means business. And those knocking our armed forces, it is because of their tireless efforts in every type of natural and man-made calamity that this nation is still standing strong. Have some respect for your brave soldiers you thankless nation. Long live Pak Army!
Shias are waiting for the assault.
Sir,
would you dare to destroy a drone? or that is not a threat to our motherland?
@Syed: Clearly sir, you were comfortable under dictatorship
East Pakistan was also our motherland and the people there our siblings! The country with which we made wars again and again is also our motherland and the people there our blood!
@Syed: What duties are talking about??
In Bangladesh: Killing Bangali's and then the worlds largest surrender takes place? In Tribal Areas of Pakistan: killing its own citizens in return for dollars. Constants trips to Washington and Riyadh to please the masters.
That is not a bad deal for after retirement plots, lands, cars and foreign residences.
They are only good at the time of floods and quakes.
Have you guys, who otherwise pretend as defenders of democracy, forgotten that it is the head of the state (not head of Army) who decides for an all out action.
no doubt GENERAL RAHEEL ,is atrue soldier and a great SIPAH SALAR
Can bet this man has personality in his looks and body language.. Bravo General!! am sure you not gonna disappoint the nation :) best of luck!!!!
@Syed
