Looted: Robbers loot over Rs1.3m in seventh bank heist of year

Officials said that the robbery lasted for five minutes.

A gang of robbers looted a branch of Habib Bank in Gulshan-e-Iqbal in what was the seventh bank heist of the year. The incident occurred a day after dacoits looted Rs4.5million from a branch of Bank Islami in Orangi Town.


On Tuesday, at least three members of a gang of robbers, who had arrived on two motorcycles, entered the bank located near Mochi Mor in Gulshan-e-Iqbal at around 11:40am. They held the staff and customers hostage at gunpoint and snatched the weapon from the security guard deployed at the entrance of the bank.


The robbers then moved towards the cash counter and looted approximately Rs1,365,000. Police investigators, quoting witnesses, told The Express Tribune that two robbers wore pants and shirt and the third was wearing shalwar kameez. A fourth member of the gang kept watch outside the bank. Officials said that the robbery lasted for five minutes.


SHO Aurangzeb Khattak told The Express Tribune that the footage of the robbery recorded by the bank’s DVR system had been obtained. A case has been registered while further investigation was underway.
