Power solutions: Govt committed to resolve energy crisis

Tarbela fourth and Tarbela fifth hydropower projects will add 1,410 and 1,320 megawatt (MW) electricity respectively.

ISLAMABAD: The government has been implementing short, medium and long-term strategies to overcome the energy crisis in the country, said a government official while speaking to Radio Pakistan. He said that despite various challenges, resolution of the energy crisis was the government’s top priority. Speaking about the hydropower projects, he said that Tarbela fourth and Tarbela fifth hydropower projects will add 1,410 and 1,320 megawatt (MW) electricity respectively, raising the total capacity of Tarbela hydropower units to 6,208MW. “The 4th extension hydropower project will complete in the short span of three and a half years with the financial help of World Bank,” he said, adding that negotiations were under way with the World Bank to provide funding for the 5th Tarbela extension power project.
