HYDERABAD: Government college teachers will surround the Sindh Assembly on February 26 to protest the ‘lethargic attitude of the provincial government’ towards their demands. The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association’s leader Shah Jahan Panhwar announced at a press conference on Monday that teachers from 270 government colleges will participate. The teachers complained that they are being denied timely promotions, certain allowances and insurance while thousands of sanctioned posts in the colleges remain vacant, increasing the work burden on the existing teachers. “Around 4,882 college teachers’ posts, out of the sanctioned 10,208, have remained vacant for the last five years,” claimed Panhwar. He also claimed that over 1,000 teachers are waiting for their promotions but the government has still not implemented the timescale and four-tier promotion formula which has been introduced in other provinces.
