PESHAWAR: The recruitment of clerks and constables in the police department will now be conducted through the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) and the National Testing Service (NTS). This was decided in a Police Policy Board meeting held at the Central Police Office (CPO) on Friday. Chaired by Inspector General Police Nasir Khan Durrani, the meeting was held to discuss complaints of corruption and nepotism in the recruitment of constables and clerks in the police department. The participants decided that in order to ensure fair, transparent and merit-based promotions, all police departmental promotion exams will henceforth be conducted through ETEA and NTS. Reviewing the proposal for restructuring the Peshawar CPO, the policy board approved the establishment of three directorates which will be headed by officers of the rank of deputy inspector general (DIG). This directorate will deal with complaints filed by both the public and police personnel. In addition, it will be responsible for internal accountability within the police department.
